About the project

Reduction of greenhouse gases through the installation of a biomass boiler to replace the use of natural gas.

The objective of the Project is the reduction of greenhouse gases through the installation of a biomass boiler to replace the existing natural gas boiler used in La Providencia. La Providencia is a sugar mill intended for the production of cane sugar and byproducts, installed in 1882. All materials produced in La Providencia are used as raw materials in the production of the final product.
For biomass operation, bagasse is used, which is the residue of the sugar manufacturing process from cane, the remainder of the cane stalks after the sugary juice it contains has been extracted. By reusing this waste, the project has the capacity to reduce approximately 417,000 tons of CO2 equivalent over the 10-year period.
